Responsibilities of the Security Department
The G B Pant University’s Security Department (GBPUATSD) is responsible for the safety and security of more than 3,000 students, 3,000 faculty and staff members, and 500 buildings in an open and accessible environment. Some core functions of the Department are: responding to criminal incidents; checking on the well-being of students, faculty, and staff; responding to disturbances; providing escorts; taking reports of lost and stolen property; responding to lockouts; investigating suspicious activity; responding to alarms; and investigating trespassers or unwanted guests. In addition to these activities, officers present safety and security information at community meetings, make presentations at student and new employee orientations, teach self-defense classes, register vehicles, and initiate informal contact with students, faculty, and staff while patrolling on foot, bicycles, motorcycles and cars. GBPUATSD officers are approachable and committed to keeping the Pantnagar community safe and secure.
GBPUATSD Responsibilities to the Community
- To protect life and safeguard property
- To create a safe and secure environment for the entire GBP University community
- To prevent crime, control criminal behavior, maintain order, and reduce fear of crime
- To accomplish all security objectives legally and constitutionally, guided by GBPUATSD values and mindful at all times of the rights of individuals and the interests of the community
- To create partnerships with university and community groups, service agencies, institutions, and other criminal justice agencies
- To identify and solve problems
- To listen to community concerns
- To establish and support crime prevention programs
- To respond to calls for service
- To investigate crimes
- To apprehend those who commit crimes
- To help to convict persons charged with crimes
- Protection of life and property of the university and its residents
- Prevention of crime
- Providing service to members of the university while at the same time preserving an environment conducive to the pursuit of educational goals and personal growth.
It is our department’s endeavor to fulfill these responsibilities in a courteous, polite manner. We realize that as members the university security department we perform an important function for the university; we aim to reflect a favorable image of the university during our contact with the university community and general public. We further pledge to maintain a high standard of conduct and proficient performance in our duties through continuing education and in-service training.
Our policies and procedures are geared to ensure a safe environment for all GBPUAT community members. We strive to maintain open and clear communication with students while assisting the administration, faculty, and staff. As professionals we are friendly with students, faculty, and staff, while firm in maintaining adherence to regulations; cooperation is essential for attainment of our goals. By maintaining professionalism, reliability, concern, courtesy, and prompt response, we succeed.
