19th March 2010, marked the opening of the much anticipated 7th national inter-collegiate technical festival "COLOSSEUM'10" organized by the
College of Technology, G. B. Pant University, Pantnagar. The name of the fest has been derived from the ancient, roman, colossal structure ‘Colosseum’ where gladiators assembled for wars. The fest builds up an excellent ground for technical and cerebral combats. It followed a crowd of more than 2000 students participating from 40 colleges of the region, crafting maximum number of registrations this time and a prize money of rupees 2 lakhs. It was successful enough to establish itself as the largest fest in the entire north zone. Moreover, the massive media coverage and celebrity presence afforded it a lofty spot.
DAY 1
The first day commenced with the inauguration ceremony presided over by the honorable vice-chancellor of the university
Dr. B.S.Bisht who extended his best wishes to the students and declared the fest open. The big technical bonanza began with a great deal of zeal and enthusiasm tracing out a commendable platform for the students to display their immense technical flair and scientific knowledge.
The major event RANBHUMI- laid down the battlefield for the robots following its first round of eliminations.
ABHIVYAKTI- provided an opportunity to the students to present paper on various technological jobs.
AURUM- the personality contest hunted for a combination of intellect, beauty and creativity.
JUGAT-provided for assembling and dis-assembling of various machine parts.
INFORMALS-relished this technical environment with a flavour of fun.
Other events that were organized are Junkyard wars, Brillare, Inspire India, X-quiz it, Structomania , Kurukshetra, Web-o-mania, Tracksion, Lord of the Code, Director’s cut and others.
At the end of these technical proceedings followed the dazzling DJ Nite. At Calypso, one could easily spot out the crowd getting into madness and shoved into rampant excitement.
The first day of the fest tracked a successful and appealing record with loading brand names like SAIL, PNB, Nestle, ONGC allied with it.
DAY 2
The second day of “Colosseum‘10” was an excellent extension of the zeal and zest that flourished on the first day. The incredible success of the first was a boost to reach new heights and avenues.
The second day brought forward advancement in technical proceedings of the previous day. The Robotics competition-Ranbhumi followed its first round of eliminations for autonomous robots.
Biz-czar gave an opportunity to present a business plan and checked the students on monetary skills.
In Junkyard Wars the students build up a mechanism from trash and reincarnated the junk.
Mccoy the new entry checked one’s skills as a VJ. The VJ hunt was remarkable and captured a large crowd.
Vaastu built up grounds checking the artistic perception of the students through various competitions like face painting, wall painting, tattoo making and paper dance. Other events of the day include Jugat, Pro-concoct, Inspire India, Code 4 gates, Track-sion, Brillare.
The ‘Ahlaad’ eve summoned the day, the Kavi Sammelan captivated the audience by the gracious presence of vivacious
Kumar Vishwas who fabricated miraculous expressions and rhyming phrases that left the audience spellbound.
DAY 3
21 st March, the final day of "Colosseum'10" enfolded in its bounds ushers of thrill and excitement. It marked the finale of various enthralling events and the much awaited celebrity nite. Ranbhumi-the robotics contest carried on its laudable final round.
Kurukshetra hosted a variety of LAN games and marked the survival of the fastest.
Nations provided an opportunity to raise the voice on worthy international issues governing the general welfare of the people.
Pro-concoct was based on applying technical and scientific knowledge of converting energy into different forms.
Various other events like Aurum,Informals,Iconoclasm,Director’s Cut and Sanrachna were organized during the day. The chief attraction of the fest ‘Corroboree’ with names like
Jal,Euphoria and Bandish allied added to its list the charismatic
‘Bombay Rockers’ who gave the first live performance in North India and plunged all into unbound thrill and excitement. The night instilled energy , style and enthusiasm in every soul.
Examined and Inspected the event has raised itself from a dream to an extravagant achievement. Consolidated in robots lie ushers of creativity and innovation. The fest closed with a budget of Rs. 12 lakhs fabricating new avenues of success. Its virtue and eminence affords it the highest priority ‘Colosseum’ is the pride and honor of the college and lives upto its motto
‘Dream-Innovate-Achieve’.
