hi... dis is no way to ask for guidance...atlst introduce urself,ur name, year and brnch...the thumb rule to prepare for CAT or MBA is to improve your english continuously before you reach the year in which u'l b writng d paper... and let me b straight, english is the toughest nut to crack in this paper. in the future, try and be more specific... i am vaibhav bansal, final year, electronics and communication engg.....

myself Vaibhav Dixit Batch 2004-08 Frankly speaking i m not exactly right guy to told u abt the full prepration as i am also doing till now.he he he but whatever i know i can share with u fuys Actually for english i can say many of us has to restart it from scratch from basic grammer to full fledged with vocab No specific book can improve our english Also dont take di part as easy also whatevr comes in exam needs much more speed then whatever we expected or what we generally do in mock test So be prepared for that also guys be specific in asking questions like what type of problems u r facing in preprations then only anyone can help u guys abt material all coaching institutes are providing good one only time maths material is low standard u can opt for ims package for maths
Best of luck to all of u

hi amulya.. dats better...wen it comes to refernece books,c m a time student and would consider it enough to finish their material...as far as u go,i wil only suggest english at this point of ur second year...books won't do much help in english, try and be punctual in reading newspaper...u mite say bakwaas advice hai,bt i would assert english starts and ends with newspaper...ppl in pantngr strt readin properly only wen its too late for CAT.....don't try to read it with fast speed initially if u find it tough to understand, but make sure that only after one reading u r able to get into the thought process which author mite hv experiencd while writing....one more thing,my repeated stress on english doesn't mean that m undermining di or quant,as dixit sir also said,m assumin u r fairly good in maths....and watever ur position b n maths, from third year onwrds,u'l hv enuf time to wrk on it.....hope u'l gt sm directn nw....

Hi amulya I think u have already got a great deal of good advice from Vaibhav bansal and Dixit Sir. Although I am not preparing for CAT , I would like to share with all of u a technique of vocab building which is my personal favorite and has brought about good results for all those who have practised it on my advice. It might even be pretty much obvious but anyways here it goes-------- 1) Always be on the lookout for new words. 2) When u see a new word, don't write it down. This is a very very bad habit. Why??Our mind actually prioritizes the information that is fed to it. As soon as that information is saved somewhere safely, the priority level comes down. Understood?? 3) Just lookup its meaning, and make a mental note of its collocation(the context in which it has been used). Don't try to mug up the exact meaning but do remember the sentence where it has been used and obviously the original word. 4) Every alternate day try to recall the words u had learned earlier. Try to recall their collocations and now write them down somewhere with a sentence of your own. Here don't forget to consult the dictionary to see the figure of speech of the word. U will need it to use the word properly. 5) Do this for 15 days and keep reading the newspaper/novels. Soon u will start to see a pattern in the usage of words and u will be able to group your list into subgroups. This is the time when your real learning begins!
This method may seem a bit daunting at first but I guarantee u that if followed properly, it will increase not only ur reading vocabulary but ur actual working vocabulary( the words u use in speaking/writing).
Bye.

hi.. nice saurabh...its very good if ne1 cn wrk on this advice...beacause wat helps in the long run is the ability to use wrds in effective sentence making rather than knowin the meaning only...and m sure this technique cn help a lot in doin this...baaki try and master critical reasonin as mch as possible...teachers tell us nw that u cn master critical reasonin only if u toil fr atlst one yr...u hv a lot of time....get goin....best of luck...

hi amulya... frst things frst...there is no definite time span during which u cn learn smthing...as far as CAT goes,it all depends on the aptitude...so no pet answers for this...and the technique which saurabh suggestd,he being my branch mate ,i know his mental abilities in doing this..u try this fr few days,if u do not catch up,stick to the traditional prctice of word list....and once u gt evn a little hold of good vocab, then shift gear and improve critical reasonin...CAT is no more interstd in vocab and al...it is a test of verbal reasoning nw....

Hi again, Amulya, I agree that this method seems a bit daunting at first, to the extent that it may even discourage some! If ur sole aim is cracking CAT, then I think Vaibhav is damn right. 'Cat's english section is no more vocab intensive!' Give more time to DI and Verbal Reasoning and use the traditional methods of vocab building(any method u are comfortable with!). But... if by any chance u desire to impress ur friends with the use of words most fitting to a situation, during conversation or through ur writings , then try out my method. Bye
And vaibhav , thanks for eulogizing my moderate and definitely NOT SO GOOD 'mental abilities'.

hi dat ws true saurabh... neways, amulya, dat ws a fairly easy question...time is better because first, it is the only institute here offring coaching fr mba papers, second, it scores above ims and cl because of its mock series which ultimately are the most imprtnt part of prepration....the faculty here is fine, so its a safe bet to join time...
