ya i think this course should be introduced from second year onwards and should replace useless courses like IM(Instruments and measurements).

My sincere and honest advice to all CS/IT guys....."PLEASE learn Java ANYHOW" and not just Java SE but Java EE (servlets,EJB,jsp and RMI stuff)

Topics one should pay attention to in Java(besides core Java): 1.Networking API (creating single and multi-threaded servers and clients) 2.JDBC API 3.Servlets and JSP (in J2EE) 4.Java Beans (not much important but helpful nonetheless)

Students who want to learn java can opt for it in IIIrd year with IT students... However you should start learning it on your own.. their are lots of useful resources in internet. Opt for the course only if you are really interested in java otherwise it will be like any other course.. Even after opting for course you have to study on your own because very less will be taught in class.. so better start now on your own..

Guys learn not only J2SE but J2EE also focus on JDBC, JSP servlets etc and the best source is Java docs on oracle.com its best. You can also refer to SCJP courseware for improving your core concepts regarding OOP etc
