Hmmm.. This calls for some introspection. In our batch (1994) of 270 people, more than 50 people went on to do MS from the US of A, and it really wasn't a big deal.
Is it now?

Tomer Sir,
Well I am not sure the figure you're giving here is genuine ... BTW i am from 95 batch (1 year junior to you)..and in fact we had no news of these 50 guys or gal..they might have gone may be after 2 or 3 years after getting through the degree.
And above all saying it as not being a big deal is really not fair..
During those days people getting placement (even in TELCO) used be a big deal...and definitely GRE was a big deal...
And I do remember when Pallavi Phartyal (AG student) cracked GRE, it was a big news around... and for a while...
These student need some insipiration here...and I for sure think your remarks were quite undermining...
Keetp it up guys n gals..Pantnagar is on fire....
Every student who is making it up to GRE/CAT is bringing an honour to Pantnagar.
We're proud of you guys. Make use of the facilities around you ..and do always good..
Kundan
1995 ME Batch
Well Kundan,
I can name about 20 guys off-hand who scored above 2000 in GRE (at that time max score used to be 2400) during their final year. Mallika Bachchan scored highest - 2330.
And the figure 50 consisted of all the guys who went for MS in years after that. If you are interested in details, I'll conjure up those and share with you.
My remarks were meant to inspire these guys and challenged them to set their sights much higher. And I explained the same to some of the students when I visited Pantnagar during the alumni meet.
Regarding your comment about placements, was it students' fault that very few companies used to come? I am happy that placement scenario have improved by leaps and bounds.
But I will not be happy if the current lot of students get satisfied with it and do not look for higher goals.
P.S. In 1998, I was placed at 1.65 lakh p.a. in IMR. An un-heard of amount in those day, only IITians used to get that much. IMR selected 23 students from Pantnagar, out of which about 15 joined, rest flew to the US of A ;-)
