Kathak (Spic Macay )

KATHAK- the art of story telling woven into a dance form, has its history dating back to the lavish Darbani Kathak at the time of Mughals and the devotional Bhakti Kathak which sprouted in the temples of Mathura. This integral aspect of the Indian dance form when marvelously blended with the Persian dance form gave birth to the innovative Sufi Kathak, which despite being novel in approach emerges from within the depth of  the rich cultural diversity that we are proud to possess.
The Sufi Kathak performance by Rani Khanam was indeed a must watch as she is one of the foremost kathak exponents in India. The Indian Delegate to the Salaam festival, Director of Aamad academy of Performing Arts, New Delhi, renowned choreographer, pioneer of therapeutic theatre, recipient of ACC grant fellowship, Rani Khanam has a stature of her own.
Spic Macay, Pantnagar Chapter organized the event which turned out to be a huge success. The fusion of the traditional form of kathak and the spiritual aspect of Sufism was a perfect recipe for the gratification of soul. The passionate feelings were beautifully amalgamated with the delicacy of performance and what emerged ultimately was a sensational performance that captured the minds of the viewers.
The mystic aspect of Sufi Kathak perfectly geled up with the mood of the evening….certainly an experience of a lifetime!!!
