NOSTALGIA
Good old times at Pantnagar
I graduated from College of Technology in 1988 and I must say, those four years were some of the best years in my life. One thing I really liked was interaction with seniors (and juniors). At least then, 'Sirs' were all very helpful and ready to jump in if there ever was a problem, be it technical or social (mostly social :-).
Hostel life, Chhoti Market, Badi Market, Nagla, Lal Kuan, Rudrapur and many other such highlights - each one of these has a special place in my heart, even today.
It has been a long time since I graduated and I am sure, things are not the same any more. Many old landmarks have probably disappeared and equal number or more, have probably taken their place. It would be really interesting to hear what others feel about changes at Pantnagar in recent years, in terms of structural, organizational and/or social.

Sweet Memories
Let me share my bits, i am a graduate of College of Technology, 99 batch & here is an abridged list of my Pantnagar Memorabilia
1) Nagla : Here from we started the 4 year journey & here itself we finished it,But the bonds lingered
2)Badi Market : After those stodgy lectures, this Badi market was our best refuge. There were a couple of other incentives as well. Jaise Yaadav ji ki IceCream or wo bade bade samuse,ya fir ...(u know what I mean)
3) Nainital : 3 months back this place was as white as the background of this web page. It was under feet deep snow, hope most of you would have cooled ur heels here.
Name of Tiffin top,China Peak,Naini Lake should make you feel the cool breezes of Himalaya, esp for those who are sweating in places like Chennai(like me :)
4) Gandhi Hall : Kya hua jo maine KKHH 21 baar dekh li, I am ready to see it for 101 more times (back to back) but the rider is that the Theatre should be "The Gandhi Hall" + mere saath tum/aap sab log dekho. This Theatre is more pretentious for me than the Kodak Theatre.Besides it this hall has one more importance for all of us because here only we celebrated our Freshers Nite
5) Freshers Nite : Recall the days before freshers nite
Boys cud wear no jeans,no bracelets, no Belts, no T-shirts,no shirts with folded sleeves
& Girls in their Plane vanilla Salwar with Black chunni
But after this day we broke all the shackles & became one with our Seniors & a road of Perfect Camaraderie started.
6) One Nite Fight : We all are "THE REAL GLADIATORS". Hundreds of Credit Hours ,we blew up in a few scores of Nights.Wo Hourlies,Wo make ups,wo final semester exams sab hamne ek din main poore kiye. In our dictionaruy there was no word like Preparation,Becoz it starts with the word Pre- :))
7) Senior-Junior Bonds :Do I need to write anything here
There are many other things like Chhoti Market,Home Science College, Fisheries ke wo Talab,Shama Restaurant,Haldwani,(Tagore,Patel,VS,SJ ,Subhash,Gandhi,Nehru,Sarojini,Gangotri) hostels, Hamari 4 Lakh Books strong library
If any of you have photographs of these Landmarks, kindly send it to dheeraj_pandey1@rediffmail.com & give me one more chance to be senti
Luv & Regards to all of you

P V R - Pantnagar Village Roadshows
Have you ever been to RED WELL MULTIPLEX near university to watch a movie. You may have been but the name must be confusing you. I am mentioning about video parlours at Lal Kuan. This is a story of 1984-85. VCRs and VCPs were recently introduced in the market and video parlours were doing a brisk business in all small towns of India. Some of these had also come up at Lal Kuan. This used to be a normal tea shop with thatched roof where the enterprising owner had put a TV on a high table and put some chairs in front to convert it into a video parlour. You could also order for tea and snacks while enjoying the movie. Few war movies / action movies and carry on series used to be the hot favourite among all pantaguns.
This was a great boon for the students as they found some means to kill the never ending monotony of univ life. Every Sunday you could see smiling faces dressed in colourful T Shirts, having breakfast in a hurry and moving on their cycles to Lal Kuan. But there was a problem that the distance from Univ to Lal Kuan was too much to cycle on a hot day. There were some Jim Corbets in our batch and they discovered a short cut which started from some where near Phool Bagh and passed through thick jungles to reach the destination. This was a great discovery as it drastically reduced the travel time and effort. Every time the students came back from watching a movie, they had some interesting stories to narrate about their wild life encounters on the way. On one occasion some one narrated story about sighting a family of tigers with cute cubs near a water body which was on the way. Every one envied him and wanted to have the same experience.
One one occasion I was going on the same path to Lal Kuan with a group of friends. We were enjoying cycling through the thick forest. Suddenly a herd of deers, running at a high speed overtook us by almost throwing us on the side. Before we could understand what happened one wise man amongst us announced "Certainly a tiger is chasing them, that is why they are running so fast". Next moment you could see all of us climbed up the nearest trees. Some one who had never climbed a tree before was fore - runner in this activity. We waited for a long time, panting on the trees but there was no tiger in sight. Later we all laughed at our foolishness and moved further.
